From Cardiac Care to Intensive Care, MUH’s varied specialist services offer real career choice to its team. Nursing Specialist areas include General/Specialist Medical & Surgical Services, Critical Care, Stroke Service, Theatre, Oncology, Gastroenterology, Emergency, Inclusion Health and Care of the Older Person.
Allied Health Professional areas include Cardiac and Respiratory Physiology, Dietetics, Laboratories, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Radiology, Social Work, and Speech and Language Therapy.
MUH provides complex diagnostic, medical and surgical services at local, regional and national levels on a 24/7 basis. The hospital currently has 316 beds providing a general hospital function of acute unscheduled care (24/7 Emergency Department) as well as a wide range of scheduled elective diagnostics and both day case and complex elective surgery. There is an on-site acute HSE mental health service with 50 in-patient beds.

The hospital is a leading provider of healthcare education affiliated with University College Cork, Ireland and many of the postgraduate training bodies. The Health Research Board Clinical Research Facility, Cork’s (CRF-C) administrative centre and its Adult Research Unit are located in MUH.
