Cygnet Hospital Harrogate is located in very pleasant surroundings, in a picturesque North Yorkshire spa town which is easily accessed by road and rail. Service users have an appointed nurse and are reviewed by a consultant psychiatrist up to 3 times a week. Medical cover is provided 24 hours a day. Referrals and admissions can be received at any time of the day or night by arrangement with a consultant psychiatrist and medical staff on-call.

Haven Ward is Cygnet Hospital Harrogate’s male emergency acute inpatient service. The ward can support service users on an informal basis and also those detained under the Mental Health Act. Each individual admitted to Haven Ward has a bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. There is also a communal sitting room and a ward kitchenette.

Sanctuary Ward is Cygnet Hospital Harrogate’s emergency acute inpatient service for women. The ward can accept service users on an informal basis and also those detained under the Mental Health Act. Following admission to Sanctuary Ward, service users will have their medications reviewed and other interventions will be considered and, where appropriate, put into place. Each individual admitted to Sanctuary Ward has their own bedroom with en-suite bathroom. There is also a communal sitting room and ward kitchenette.
The service has a full MDT including consultant psychiatrists, ward doctors, a therapy team including activities coordinators, and nursing therapists. There is a range of therapies available and all service users can access a minimum of 25 hours of therapy a week. There is a comprehensive programme of both group and individual therapies available for; alcohol abuse, coping mechanisms, anger management, and stress-reducing techniques. If a person is not able to leave their ward to attend therapy sessions or a structured group, then activity coordinators based on the ward can support individuals to engage in ward-based activities.
Admissions are usually short-term but we can support people longer-term if they require extra support while an alternative service is found. Our aim is to help people learn how to manage their mental health before returning home. The Catering Team provide for all dietary requirements, and individuals can choose to eat their meals in the dining room, where waiter service is provided, or on their respective ward.
You will join a team that works closely and collaboratively with service users, their families and the referrer to provide a seamless pathway from referral to discharge. Our approach is recovery focused and supported by a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team, contributing to shorter lengths of stay.
