Senior Biomedical Scientist Blood Transfusion Lead | Band 6 equivalent | Manchester| Full Time

Spire Manchester are looking for a highly motivated Senior Biomedical Scientist Blood Transfusion Lead to join our dynamic team.

Duties and responsibilities

To assist in the organisation, management and development of services within a specialised area of the pathology service, or across a range of services provided by the laboratory at Hub Hospital and support the provision of pathology services for spoke site Hospitals

To liaise with the Laboratory Consultant and the Pathology Manager, to ensure the provision of the high quality service in an efficient and cost effective manner.

Take a lead role in ensuring the departmental Blood Transfusion service is safe and effective You will liaise with the Laboratory Consultant and the Pathology Manager, to ensure the provision of the high quality service in an efficient and cost effective manner. Other duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Analyse, interpret and report information and knowledge related to ideas and concepts.
  • Develop and evaluate the movement of laboratory specimens and blood.
  • Develop practice in the application of technology for measuring and monitoring pathology investigations, within your specialist area of expertise.
  • Provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information.
  • Develop own knowledge and skills and that of others.
  • Assist in maintaining and developing services.
  • Deliver quality improvement with the department senior team.
  • Acknowledge the risk of Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) and understand own responsibility as agreed with line manager in the prevention and control of HCAI.
  • Ensure all staff working within the Blood Transfusion section of the department are trained and competent in the subject
  • Ensure Blood Transfusion services are ready for inspection by MHRA and UKAS at any point
  • Attend the hospital HTC committee
  • Raise Blood Transfusion Incidents in a timely manner to the Pathology Manager and Director of Clinical Service at the relevant site

Who we're looking for
  • You must be a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with no restrictions on practice
  • Experience of independent sector is desirable
  • You must be experienced in Blood Transfusion
  • 3 years' experience post state registration experience is essential
  • Excellent communication skills
