Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse
Location: HMP Swaleside, Brabazon Rd, Eastchurch, Isle of Sheppey, ME12 4AX
Payrate: £30 Hourly
Contract : 3 Months - Full-time
Working Hours: 08:00 am - 04:00 pm , 09:00 am - 05:00 pm (including a 30-minute break)

Job Purpose:
As a Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse, you will be pivotal in delivering high-quality mental health care in HMP Swaleside. Your clinical expertise and compassionate care approach will be essential for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for prisoners with varying mental health needs in this fast-paced environment.
What you will do:
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and risk assessments for prisoners with diverse psychiatric conditions.
- Develop, implement, and review individualised care plans in collaboration with patients and the wider healthcare team.
- Deliver evidence-based interventions, including psychological therapies and medication management, as appropriate.
- Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation strategies, and support for prisoners experiencing acute mental health distress.
- Administer and monitor prescribed medications, ensuring adherence to prison and NHS policies.
- Liaise effectively with prison staff, social services, and external healthcare providers to ensure seamless care for patients.
- Advocate for service users, promoting recovery-focused and person-centred approaches to care.
Essential Requirements:
- Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with a valid NMC registration.
- Experience working in forensic, custodial, or secure mental health settings.
- Strong clinical assessment and risk management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience in substance misuse, self-harm reduction, or personality disorder management.
- Training in CBT, DBT, or trauma-informed care.
