Job Title : Best Interest Assessor (BIA) - Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) Location : Leicester Salary : £36 - £38 per hour Contract Type : Ongoing, Full-Time (Initial 3-Month Contract)

Join the Leicester City Council Adult Social Care team as a Best Interest Assessor (BIA) within the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) team. This full-time, ongoing role offers a competitive hourly rate and an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in adult social care by safeguarding vulnerable individuals. The position is initially office-based until IT equipment is provided for home working.

Key Responsibilities:

Mental Capacity & Best Interest Assessments : Conduct thorough mental capacity and best interest assessments, ensuring compliance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and DoLS regulations.

DoLS Reviews & BIA Duty : Undertake DoLS reviews and participate in the BIA Duty rota, handling telephone calls and email inquiries related to assessments.

Legal Compliance : Ensure all assessments are in line with Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights, providing high-quality assessments and advice on DoLS legislation.

Coordination of Assessments : Oversee and manage the DoLS assessment process within statutory timescales, ensuring prompt responses to safeguarding concerns.

Training & Support : Deliver expert advice and offer training and support to Best Interest Assessor candidates, sharing knowledge to support the wider team.

Requirements:

BIA Qualification : A post-qualified award as a Best Interest Assessor, with comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation and codes of practice.

Recent Experience : At least 2 years of experience as a qualified Best Interest Assessor, including mandatory annual refresher training.

Relevant Qualification : A degree in Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, or a similar field, along with current registration with the relevant professional body.

Complex Needs Assessment : Proven experience in assessing complex needs for adults within the adult social care or healthcare settings.

Communication & IT Skills : Strong written and verbal communication skills, with solid administrative and IT capabilities, and the ability to manage challenging situations effectively.
