Job Advert Role Description
Job Purpose
To work within the psychological department and support and enhance the professional psychological care and assessment of service users.
To work and assist in the delivery of psychological services as directed, and under supervision. This will include the planning, implementation and evaluation of a range of therapeutic services to support the mental, emotional, physical and social wellbeing of service users.
Responsibilities
- To undertake protocol based psychological assessments of service users applying psychological tests, including self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews, and others involved in the service user's care, under the supervision of a qualified psychologist.
- To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a service user's problems, under the supervision of a qualified psychologist.
- To assist in the co-ordination and co-facilitation of therapeutic groups as appropriate.
- To assist with the planning, delivery and review of one-to-one sessions under the supervision of a qualified psychologist.
- To maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the form of case notes, case files, clinical reports and other associated documentation. To present and share relevant information with colleagues, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings as and when required.
- To support and undertake data collection and analysis, for both the purposes of research and service evaluation. This may include collecting and reviewing a variety of data such as psychometric scores, interview data, historical information, literature searches. It may also involve data analysis and report writing, under supervision.
- To support and contribute to the training and support of other staff.
- You will be expected to apply the learning from your undergraduate degree in psychology in your work, under the supervision of an experienced and HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist.
- Assistant Psychologists will carry out the above tasks of responsibility under the management and supervision of an experienced and HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist.
- The assistant psychologist workload is managed under supervision and goals agreed in weekly supervision sessions.
- Intelligent problem solving based upon acquired knowledge and skill gained through prior work experience and supervised practice, including undergraduate programme learning and application.
- A creative and flexible approach is necessary.
- Communication
- Well-developed written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills, are important aspects of this role, when working with service users, colleagues and other professionals, families and carers.
- Professional Accountability
- It is your responsibility for the accuracy, security and confidentiality of patient records in line with policy and data protection guidance.
- Assistant Psychologists will undertake training as indicated by their supervisor.
- Assistant Psychologists will undertake supervision weekly with their designated supervisor.
- Safeguarding
- All colleagues have a responsibility to protect and safeguard vulnerable individuals at risk (whether children or adults).
- Colleagues must be aware of local child and adult protection procedures and who to contact within the Local Authority Safeguarding team for further advice.
- All colleagues are required to attend safeguarding awareness training and to undertake additional training appropriate to their role.
- Working Environment
- The problems faced by service users may present challenging situations, which may increase the physical, sensory and emotional demands of the role. The role holder will be provided with appropriate training to prepare and support them in this role. Supervision will also be provided.
- This role is largely patient facing and hybrid / remote working is not possible.
