Job Description:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to join our team at a small residential home that provides person-centered care for individuals with learning disabilities and mental health needs. Your role will be to empower our clients to live fulfilling, independent lives while ensuring their safety, dignity, and well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Support:
- Provide individualized care and support tailored to the needs of each resident.
- Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, and household tasks.
- Support residents to participate in activities, hobbies, and community outings to enhance their social and emotional well-being.
- Foster a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment that promotes independence and confidence.
Emotional and Mental Health Support:
- Actively listen and offer emotional support to clients, promoting positive mental health.
- Monitor and respond to changes in clients' mental health or behavior, reporting concerns to senior staff.
- Encourage and support residents to develop coping strategies and self-management skills.
Communication and Advocacy:
- Build trusting relationships with clients, their families, and external professionals.
- Act as an advocate for residents, ensuring their voices are heard and respected.
- Maintain clear and accurate records of care plans, incidents, and daily activities.
Teamwork and Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with a team of support workers and care professionals.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and supervision sessions.
- Follow all policies, procedures, and health and safety guidelines.
Medication and Health Management:
- Administer medication in line with care plans and training.
- Assist with healthcare appointments and liaise with medical professionals.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not essential; full training will be provided.
- Understanding of learning disabilities and mental health conditions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach.
- Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-in shifts as required.
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or willingness to work towards this qualification).
