I am not entirely sure how I ended up working in the fascinating field of forensic psychiatry, it has been a series of career choices and academic pursuits which increased my interest and commitment to working with offenders.
In the following article, I will provide an overview of what forensic mental health nursing is and what it is like to be a nurse in this specialist area of practice.

Registered Mental Health Nurse with 11 years experience. Worked in Psychiatric Intensive Care for 8 years. Moved to a Nurse Manager role within the prison service. Gained a MSc in Clinical Forensic Psychiatry then worked as a Matron within the prison service and secure forensic mental health hospital. I’m now a Nurse Consultant for Forensic Mental health, am a non-medical independent prescriber. Currently training to be an Approved Clinician

Hi Laura, Absolutley loved your post about forensic nursing! Im in my 1st year of uni doing adult nursing and have been thinking a lot about what type of nursing id like to go into and I'm leaning towards Forensic Nursing, however, I study adult nursing and i noticed you said that you were a mental health nurse. Will this affect my chances of becoming a forensic nurse, i know that my uni offers a masters degree in forensic mental health which i can apply for once i have my BSc of course.
