Understand Your PAD Before You Go On Placement

I just thought I would come on here and give my fellow Student Nurses some advice on placements and preparing for placements.

Particularly if you are in first year, but also if you're in second or third because it can be just a good reminder if you've been out of placement for quite a while, doing theory work.

So, one thing that is really important is that before you start each placement or before you start a new placement of a new year.

If you're going from first year to second year or second year to third year, it's really important that you read and understand your practice assessment document or PAD thoroughly before you start.

It is really important to know what is expected of you whilst you're on placement, what type of skills you need to get signed off and achieve, what kind of reflections you need to do, the different types of feedback you need to receive.

There's a lot of things that you need to make sure you know what you're doing.

You need to know at roughly which points in your placement you need to get certain things signed off.

It's so important that you keep on top of that because otherwise, you'll come into the placement.

And then all of a sudden realise that you've got all of these different things that you had no idea you needed to do or achieve.
